Ahoi Adventurers,
I am sat in a busy café located at a sleepy street in the old part of Gracia – Barcelona. Spring holiday is up. Two full months to flaunt on new experiences, odd adventures and thorough soul-spring cleaning. This time, I did not feel the need to go far – as you will have experienced, happiness is tied to the people you spend your time with, not the place. Feeling my wanderlust tingling I spontaneously booked a one way flight to visit my friends in Barcelona.
The beauties of a one way flight
What do you associate with it? Possibly the thrill of the unpredictable, the freedom to leave again and move on when you feel it is time, being unbound and being dependent on no one but yourself. If you ever have the time and freedom to fly somewhere only one way, I highly recommend you to make that experience. Here is what it did to me.
♥ Before: Lethargic
When I opened my laptop for the first time in Barcelona after having shut it at home, the website I opened last hit me right in the face. Some blog with advice on how to overcome winter depression. I had completely forgotten that I had ever looked that up! Suddenly I remembered my february – a series of lethargic mornings and lost evenings, of collective whining with my friends on the weather and having had no energy at all.
♥ After: Re-Energized
All this was forgotten the moment I stepped off the plane! Changing up the scene, feeding your brain with new impressions, stimulating your soul with new acquaintances – all this is spring cleaning for the soul. If you have some time on your hands, I strongly recommend you to single out a place you feel like exploring and book a one way flight.
Why does a one way flight help your personal development?
Not knowing when you leave for home will activate your sleeping survival instinct. You are confronted with new refreshing tasks – where to stay for a month? What can I do that is useful to my development? Join a language class, join a yoga or guitar class etc. Go to Meetups or find events that interest you like local concerts, markets and festivals.
Feeding yourself with new visuals plus hearing thoughts and stories of the people you meet will take your mind of problems, that you might have been overly concentrated on before and bring new inspiration to you. Learn the necessary words in a new language to get by. There is nothing more satisfying than ordering your coffee in the language of the country you are visiting and not in “I’m a tourist” – english.
Get out of your comfort zone in order to grow. If anything goes wrong, you can leave tomorrow.
If you love it, stay as long as you can. Your travel time is not limited, you decide. That for me are the beauties of a one way flight. Fully engulf yourself in the adventure you are creating and it will repay you in the most beautiful ways.
Where would you like to go and did you ever dare to go one way..?
