The next Holiday is right around the corner and I hear many of my fellow students moan. Yes you read right! They moan about “what to do” with so much freetime. Give me a second – I can write you a book about it! Quite disturbed by this outbreak of unexpected misery, I decided to write a guide to all those lost souls, who fear their time wasted during
these long lovely days of freedom.
1. Travel of course!!
What came to my mind when I started to think about semester holiday months (!) ago were wild adventures in far off countries, backpacking through europe or bicycling to a city within my own country – traveling!! Now during your precious years of university you can stay away for months on end without having a gap in your CV or having to miss work!
It’s THE opportunity you should not underestimate. Go travel!! Your 30 something working self will thank you later.
2. Do Work Experience
You know how nowadays, no company allows people to have a sneak peek for just a few weeks. They need you for months! Most commonly at least 3. So NOW is the best chance to do it. You’ll make important connections and experiences before you have even finished studying, which could lead to a promising start later on.
3. Work and Travel
And I don’t mean expensive travel agencies that want YOUR money to help anywhere for insane hours. I mean amazing organisations like workaway.info, where you meet people needing your help and offering food and accommodation in exchange. Anywhere in the World. Fiji included.
Meet new people, create memories and feel yourself grow while doing something you have never done before, returning with a broader Horizon.
4. Learn a Language
After school I went off to France, to the Côte D’Azur. I am partly french, so I felt I owe my family to nurture my french and learn it thorougly. I can honestly say that it was one of the best experiences of my life. The people I met there
are still very close to me, we travel together and visit each other. Not only will you meet new people, you will learn a language in the process and will feed from that within every aspect of your future private and business life.
If you cannot afford to travel at the moment, then don’t worry. It is absolutely underestimated to actually have free time at home! But since there is a reason you stayed home, you could use part of your free time and make some money! Not only will you feel productive and happier in the process, you will also have money on your hands for your next trip!
Ideally, find a job in a niche that you either want to work in later on, or get creative and sell what you are good at – writing? Crafting? Webdesign? Make Up? You got all the time in the world to do it.
6. Get into Projects
You feel like everyone is involved into something but you? It is not too late to find yourself a project to help in. Remember: They cannot know that you are there until you tell them! Make yourself known. Make it public that you are offering your help on projects and ask around. People love authentic characters. Go for it!
7. Be productive yourself
Most of all I treasure holidays because it gives me the freedom to do what I love full-time. Is it writing, video-making, acting or making music – there is nothing distracting you to unfold your true potential. So why not creating your own project over the holidays? Set a goal, take out that idea that you wanted to turn into reality for so long and commit to it! You will be proud of yourself by the end of the month.
So – inspired yet? Make this your opportunity to grow and find out more about yourself. Know any friends who feel equally uninspired when it comes to holiday planning? Help them by sharing this post! Go get out there, see and feel something new. I wish you the best of times!
Love and Light,
